FCSO: A HISTORY OF COMMUNITY, EXCELLENCE AND GROWTH.

Forsyth County was founded on January 16, 1849 by the North Carolina Legislature. The county was named after Colonel Benjamin Forsyth to honor his service and sacrifice in the War of 1812. Colonel Forsyth was a respected landowner in what was then Stokes County, as well as a distinguished military commander, who died in 1814.

Twenty Sheriffs have served the citizens and communities of Forsyth County since 1849. The current Sheriff, William T. Schatzman, was first elected in 2002. Prior to being elected, Sheriff Schatzman was a FBI agent and supervisor.

As a full-service law enforcement agency in North Carolina, the FCSO provides comprehensive job training, incentives, benefits and advancement opportunities for all team members.
